League of Legends is a high school sport. And now, it’s gonna be massive.
Today, PlayVS announced an exclusive, multi-year partnership with the esports platform PlayVS to provide high school League of Legends seasons and championships in the United States. This deal expands on the previous partnership in which PlayVS provided high school League of Legends competition across the nation with 18 states crowning official champions this past fall.
PlayVS’ continued partnership with Riot Games will allow the software company to improve upon its integration with League of Legends, enabling an even better player experience for participating students. Since the beginning of the PlayVS-Riot relationship, PlayVS has scaled from 0 to 18 partnered states in only 15 months -- due largely to the massive popularity of Riot’s League of Legends.
During the Fall 2019 season, 80% of participating schools had at least one League of Legends team. Participating students will have access to all of League of Legends’ available in-game champions for the duration of their participation in each season.
“PlayVS' unique approach combines the recognition of state-sanctioned sports with an innovative technology platform, providing a great value for student competitors and a sustainable business model to ensure a stable future for high school esports,” said Matt Birris, Scholastic Program Lead at Riot Games. “Extending our partnership with PlayVS advances our mission to establish League of Legends as a generational sport.”
