Making Esports Accessible to Everyone

We’re committed to ensuring esports is an activity available to any student and school who wants it. Here’s how we’re gonna do it.

Aug 19, 2020

Everyone at PlayVS believes in the power of what esports can do for a student’s life. Because of this belief, we also must make every effort to ensure that power is available to any student, anywhere at any school. In short, esports is already a big tent and it’s on us to ensure that tent grows exponentially.

As the leading amateur platform for esports, we have a responsibility to take action to make good on this promise. So, whether it’s through resources, funding, programming, training, coaching, or any other manner of support — we are committed to being a part of the solution.

Our commitment to building this “big tent”, this community, is a central priority and will continue to be one in the coming months and years. This list is far from exhaustive and we have plenty more ideas kicking around, but we’re starting with these initiatives aimed at ensuring access to esports is as universal as we can make it.

  1. Play From Home - Not every school is returning to campus this year. Therefore, we’ve relaxed our rules to allow students to compete remotely from the safety of their home.
  2. Community Fund - We want every school who wants to compete with us to be able to. We created a Community Fund to financially support schools and programs in need. We take into consideration both the socioeconomic status of students and their school to determine eligibility. Schools who meet the criteria will pay as low as $1 for our Annual Premium Plan.
  3. All Girl Programs - Anybody can become an esports athlete, it’s the most inclusive sport available to students. We want to encourage and inspire more girls to get into gaming as a hobby and potentially as a career. Any school that fields an all-girl team, they’ll be able to compete for just $1 on our Annual Premium Plan.
  4. Volunteer Coaches - Whether you just want to get a program up and running or your current coach just wants a little help, we have volunteers ready to help coach your team. Schools can request a volunteer coach here.

All that matters is that players, coaches, programs, and schools understand that we want to work with you. We want to help make esports an option for you students. If you have any requests, or simply would like to talk to one of our specialists, fill out this form and we'll do our best to make it happen.
