What’s New 

Spring ‘24 Season Closes

On behalf of PlayVS, we’d like to thank all the dedicated Players, Coaches, Captains, Parents, and IT Support for their tremendous effort this Spring ‘24 Season! Thank you for your time, patience, communication, and commitment. It’s all of you who make PlayVS special! We appreciate the continued support and wish you the best of luck this Fall! 

PlayVS Cup Spring 2024 Champions

Emails for Spring 2024 Champions and select Runner-Ups will be sent out by Tuesday, April 7th.  If you are a champion and don’t see your invite by then, please contact the Support Team.

Restreaming Finals Matches

Fall‘24 Enrollment 

Enroll your team for the Fall ‘24 Season! The Fall ‘24 Preseason begins 9/23/24 and enrollment is open until 9/20/24. Follow the guide in our High School Enrollments Steps. 

Vanguard
Riot Vanguard is now mandatory for all teams playing League of Legends. When you log into the client, you'll be asked to download it and restart your PC if you do not already have Vanguard installed.

What’s New 

Finals Week is here!

Welcome to the final week of the Playoffs for most teams! Check out our full slate of Finals Matches here! For winning teams, information about the upcoming PlayVS Cup will be shared with the team’s coach. States with alternate schedules include Maine (MPA) and Massachusetts (MSAA).

What’s New 

Final Week of the Regular Season!
Welcome to the last week of the regular season! All matches, including reschedules, must be completed with results by the end of this week. 

Playoff Seeding

Teams advancing into playoffs will be seeded as soon as all matches (including reschedules) have been completed with results. To view the number of teams that will advance to playoffs in your league, view our High School Playoff Start Dates article.

More Playoffs Dates Released

A few final states (TCSAAL, MSAA, and KHSAA) have been added to the Playoff Start Dates article.

Hearthstone Cards

Due to the in-game effects that certain cards can have on gameplay itself, the Splendiferous Whizbang card has been removed from play and has been added to the Hearthstone Rulebook (1.6.2).

For teams that can only compete with two players on match day but still want to use the PlayVS Match Assistant, League Officials have provided steps in the Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate Match Instructions.

  • Coaches can send out and accept Rivals Invitations for a higher likelihood of competing against one another in Week 3 of the Regular Season.

NBA2K & Madden Substitutions

  • The bench is an option as backup for all starting NBA 2K & Madden players on match day games.

  • The PlayVS office will be closed to observe the holiday season, 12/25/23 - 1/2/24. Please be advised that support will respond when back in the office.

Certificates & Awards

Championship Game Format

  • For Championship matches only, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe changes from “Best of 3” to “Best of 5”.

Game Reminders 

Game Results/Match Reporting 

  • We ask that the winning team’s coach submit the match results within 1 hour of match completion. Coaches are a crucial part in making sure the Playoff Brackets continue to progress. Please review the Match Reporting Guide.
  • Please review how to settle a tie with the Tiebreakers FAQ.

League of Legends

  • Riot Games’ latest champion, Hwei: the Visionary is expected to be released with patch 13.24. In order to provide the fairest competitive opportunity to all teams in the postseason, Hwei will not be eligible to play in any Fall ‘23 playoff matches.

Playoffs Week #2

  • Playoffs continue with week 2 today with Group B titles on Monday and Wednesday (League of Legends, Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe, Hearthstone, NBA 2K) , while Tuesday & Thursday will feature Group A titles (Rocket League, Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate, Madden, & Splatoon™ 3).
  • Playoff reschedules are only allowed within a 24-hour window of the originally scheduled date/time and must be approved by League Officials and Customer Support.

Game Reminders 

League of Legends

  • Riot Games’ latest champion, Hwei: the Visionary is expected to be released with patch 13.24 on Wednesday, December 6th.

Spring ‘24 Enrollment 

Pricing Announcement

  • Beginning this Spring ’24 Season, PlayVS will no longer charge competition fees, enabling high schools to play in our state and regional leagues at no cost! 

Playoffs

  • Playoffs will begin as soon as Monday, 11/20! Find out more in the Playoffs FAQ.

Roster Locks

  • Rosters will lock next Monday! Update your rosters for both your starters and bench players on the Manage Teams page no later than November 20th at 11:59 PM league time.

Match Tab Improvements

  • A unique Firebob color for each esport (ex. dark blue for Rocket League)
  • The team names competing in the match
  • “Your turn!” will show when your team needs to use the Match Assistant

Fall 23’ Preseason is Here!

Rule Changes

NBA 2K24 

  • NBA 2K24 released on 9/8/2024. Coaches should secure NBA 2K24 and install it as soon as possible to be ready for the first preseason match on 9/13/2024.  
  • For new changes, please review the NBA 2K24 Rulebook and Game Day Protocol. 
  • NBA 2K24 leagues will use the PS4 version of the game.

Rocket League 

  • After a game has ended, do not use or select the “Play Again” pop-up notification. This is an in-game bug, and will redirect players to a public queue external to PlayVS matches. When using automatic invites, players should wait for the post-game results, then click “Ready” to proceed to the next game.

Fall ‘23 Rule Changes are Live! This includes the majority of changes for the Fall ‘23 and Spring ‘24 seasons. Please review each esports’ specific changes and the general league updates. 

Reminders

Fall 23’ Enrollment - The Fall ’23 Preseason is coming soon! Create and/or Enroll your team before the preseason begins. Preseason for most leagues will begin the weeks of 9/11/23 & 9/18/23. Arizona schools will have a unique Arizona (CAA) Fall ‘23 Schedule.
